Awning windows are normally installed in the basement for security purposes. Unlike our casements, the awning windows come with two locks instead of just one. There is a lock on both sides of the window giving us the double protection we need. Awnings have a crank mechanism situated on the lower base of the window that is placed in the middle. The window will open 45◦ out from the bottom up by turning the crank clockwise. These windows are also popular in the kitchen because it permits the most sunlight to enter inside the house.
